Abide With Me

I love the fact that there are so many more hymns for me to explore, to understand and to enjoy.
How satisfying to know that they are written solely for God's glory.

It has not been an easy day for me. How weak and vulnerable my faith is when I am physically weak and vulnerable. It's just as if I am so far away from God. Listening to the evil one, to complain, to sigh, to get emotional, to be angry, and most of all, not to lean on God.
However, my God is never weaker than the evil one. He's far far FAR above it. He comforts me. He lets me know that He's there, in my ups and downs. and He IS dependable. I end my quiet time today with this hymn, abide with me.

The hymn author, Henry F. Lyte's last words during his final hours on earth is "Peace! Joy!".
Knowing that he will soon see the Father. No wonder he can write such a powerful hymn.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

We, the helpless, who can help us but Him.
The world tempts us with temporary help,
they will never end our call for help. Only in Him, it is possible.
Only when He abides with us, and us with Him.

I need thy presence every passing hour.
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

This verse is especially touching, and is so real for me today.
What am I without Him. What would my life mean.
Why should I live on.
And the evil one is easily defeated by Him.
He just will not let it control me.
I may fall, but He will be there to guide me,
and with Him, I will stay.

And to end this post :
I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless;
ills have no weight, and tears not bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if thou abide with me.
May we keep that in mind, that our fear, our ills,
our tears, the death and grave will have no more meanings,
no more power over us, if He abides with us.
May we hold on to this promise of victory from Him,
a victory which is already ours.
May we, like Abraham, who in situations against hope
yet still believed in hope.
The world may not seem to show God and His promise,
but let's not be weak in faith.
Instead, like Abraham in Romans 4:20:
"Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding
the promise of God,but was strengthened in his faith
and gave glory to God"
